  • FullName:Conolysin-Mt1
  • Source:Conus mustelinus
  • Mass:2750.3 Da
  • Sequence Length:23 aa
  • Isoelectric Point:10.9
  • Activity:Antibacterial
  • Sequence

  • Function:This cytolytic peptide has ability to disrupt the integrity of cell membranes from both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It permeabilizes both negatively charged prokaryotic (PE:PG) and zwitterionic eukaryotic (PC:cholesterol) model membranes. It has potent hemolytic activity on human erythrocytes and exhibits low antimicrobial activity against the Gram-negative bacterium E.coli (MIC>50 uM) and the Gram-positive bacterium S.aureus (MIC=25-50 uM). Intracranial injection causes mice to shuffle backward until the encounter an obstacle, at which time the mouse jump into the air. The backward shuffle is reminiscent to the signature dance "moonwalk" that gained widespread popularity after being performed by Michael Jackson.
